Program Description

A two-day, interactive training for acquiring and practicing effective person centered thinking skills, centered on how to discover and balance what is important to and what is important for a person. These approaches respectfully address issues of health and safety, from a variety of perspectives, while empowering the people served to maintain control and a sense of being listened to. Participants will learn to write a Person-Centered Description. 


MHCA will provide all registrants with the workbook at check-in.


This training is designed for home health staff at all levels.


Learning Objectives

After attending this training, the participant will understand:

  • What is important TO and what is important FOR a person
  • The role of rituals & routines
  • The power of being listened to
  • The impact of having control
  • How to respectfully address issues of health/ safety and support choice
  • How to weight variables when matching people who receive supports and provide support
  • How to create goals that help people get what is important to them, while addressing what is important for them (e.g. safety).

Krisie Barron, LSW, Caregiver Specialist, Embracing Journeys

Krisie has over twenty years of experience helping individuals and families walk their aging journey. She has a passion for helping Caregivers and the people they support. Her unique personality and style of teaching engages audience members and gives them tangible tools to walk away with. She is a licensed Social Worker and a Certified Caregiver Consultant who provides training and support to Professional and Family Caregivers. She has an extensive background in Nursing Home Care, Home and Community Based Services, Homecare and Hospice.


Continued Education Credits

This program has been designed to meet the continuing education requirements for the Minnesota Board of Nursing for contact hours. This program has also been designed to meet the continuing education requirements for the MN Board of Social Work which has approved Minnesota HomeCare Association as a provider of continuing education.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

Cancellations must be in writing and received by MHCA on or before February 10, 2017 to receive a refund less a $25 cancellation fee (per registration). No refunds for cancellations made after the cancellation deadline or for no-shows. Substitutions will be taken until the conference begins at no additional charge.
