Hotline Features

  • Staffed by lawyers from a nationally recognized employment law firm that has more than 800 attorneys in 56 offices, providing a national viewpoint and a sensitivity to regional business environments. Specifically, attorneys from the Minneapolis area office field hotline calls.
  • Hotline service is free for the first 15 minutes. A discount is available for any matter that requires additional time or advice.
  • Callers receive immediate answers to most employment law questions, enabling them to evaluate potential action – and to understand the ramifications of that action – when a precarious situation arises.

How it Works

  1. The member emails the hotline with a question about an employment situation, concerns about how employment law affects a potential action, the development of a policy, or a strategic personnel practices decision.
  2. A Jackson Lewis attorney provides information about the method of approaching the problem, investigating the issue, developing corrective strategies, and providing other assistance. (Note: The firm cannot provide advice about specific discharges or adverse personnel situations.)
  3. If the question is beyond the scope of the hotline, members may elect to retain the law firm of Jackson Lewis discounted rates.

Questions Typically Handled Over the Hotline Include:

  • “Does an employee have a right of privacy in email messages that he sends or receives at work? Can we look at those messages?”
  • “An employee came to me claiming sexual harassment. What should I do?”
  • “A minority employee maintains that she was overlooked for a promotion because of her ethnicity and her religion. What action should I consider?”
  • “I have an employee with a work comp injury, are they entitled to FMLA leave too?”
  • “Are we covered by the Family Medical Leave Act? If we are, what does that require us to do?”

Jackson Lewis is prepared to offer members of MHCA a 7% discount on its hourly rates in addition to a variety of flat fee arrangements including capped fee model handbooks, administrative charge responses and preventative practices such as minimum wage and hour audits.
