2018 Legislative Session Summary

Sign up today to listen to our Government Relations Staff Kevin Goodno and Anni Simons summarize the 2018 Legislative Session. Kevin and Anni will provide you with the most complete and up-to-date information from this legislative session that impacts the industry of home care in Minnesota.

 

Speakers

Kevin Goodno, Shareholder, Fredrikson & Byron, P.A.

Kevin currently serves as Government Relations Council for MHCA. Respected for his hard work and integrity in managing difficult and challenging issues and situations, Kevin has developed strong working relationships with legislators, executive branch officials, agency personnel and various stakeholder groups. He also has extensive experience in state and local government, non-profit organizations, and the private sector. Prior to joining Fredrikson & Byron, Kevin served as commissioner of Minnesota’s largest agency, the Department of Human Services. Kevin has also served on many high-level committees, including as a member of the Governor’s Health Cabinet, as co-chair of the Minnesota Mental Health Action Group, as co-chair of the Advisory Council to End Long-Term Homelessness and as a member of the Governor’s Drive to Excellence Sub-Cabinet. Before joining the Department of Human Services, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives for twelve years being recognized for his leadership on health care, human services and tax policy issues. Kevin’s private sector experience includes practicing business and employment law with a Moorhead law firm and owning and operating a retail business. Kevin received his LLM in Taxation and JD in Law from William Mitchell College of Law and his BA from Concordia College in Moorhead.

 

Anneliese Simons, Government Relations Specialist, Fredrikson & Byron, P.A.

Anni works with MHCA to proactively advance and respond to legislative issues at the Minnesota State Capitol. Anni supports MHCA at all stages of the state policy development process, including drafting legislation, monitoring introductions of bills, tracking bill status within the legislative process, and interfacing with the Minnesota Legislature, the Governor’s Office and other state agencies. Anni has a strong background in state legislative policy in the areas of Medicaid waivered services, disability services and mental health services. Prior to joining Fredrikson & Byron, Anni served as the Senior Manager of Policy and Programs for a large coalition of Health and Human Services provider and advocacy organizations. Anni holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a master’s degree in Social Work Policy.
